K and the Beanstick
We took a trip out to one of Daddy’s soybean fields so the kids could see a little of what he has been up to the past few weeks. It’s harvest time and I am constantly trying to explain to the kids why they don’t see Daddy as much during this time. Keira was one serious scientist out in the field. She examined the beans, loved popping the beans out like she does with edamame, and listened carefully as Daddy explained all about his beans. Future research scientist? MAYBE! She carried around one big plant and called it her “beanstick.” They had an up close look at the beans and the combines. Thanks for the tour Daddy!

Little Party Animals!
Keira and Quinn were both invited to a birthday party for their friend Tristan who turned three! The party was held at the gymnastics center and was a perfect location for a small group of energetic toddlers. Complete with bounce house, trampoline, foam pit, fire truck cake, firefighter hats, and super cool treat bags, the kids had a fabulous time! I noticed that going to a three year olds’ birthday party is completely different from the party for the two year old. Keira and the other toddlers played, sat in chairs, enjoyed cake and “conversation” followed by each toddler in turn giving their gifts to Tristan, helping him open them, and then pure excitement for him after each was opened. No fighting over toys and each seemed to understand that it was Tristan’s special day! Of course Quinn proceeded to run all over the place like a little maniac but he is ONLY 1 ½! So hooray for the birthday party friend invites! We all had a wonderful time!

School Day
Keira and Quinn both attend a Mom’s Day Out program on Monday mornings. Last Monday was their first day. Quinn is in the same room that Keira was in last year, which confuses Keira at drop off, but she is adjusting to her new classroom. Half of the kids in her new room were with her last year! They were both so excited about their first day- especially about packing their school bags! The drop offs were SO completely different…
Quinn- walks directly into the classroom, says “HI” and waves/greets everyone! High fives the teacher. He then heads toward the slide they have in the room and shoots himself down- headfirst of course! He is right at home with the slide, rocking horse, and kitchen. He doesn’t even notice that I am heading out the door. The best part was his teachers told me that during snack he had eaten EVERYTHING and was getting fussy shouting what they thought was “MA MA.” His teacher picks him up to comfort him and he basically pushes himself out of her arms and continues shouting. They figured out he was actually shouting “NUM NUM” meaning “MORE SNACK NOW!” Not so much missing Mommy, more so lover of the snack! But he was happy to see me when I picked him up and gave me a big hug and a lick on the cheek – his way of a smooch! This made me feel good!!
Keira- very timid, checks out her new classroom. Sizes up the teacher, notices the dolls, smiles slightly. Luckily, the teacher had put a Dora sticker on HER nametag! Score one for new teacher! We hang up her stuff and she is hiding behind my legs, still unsure. She then sees her friend Hannah and Hannah brings her a doll. More smiles! She asks me if I am staying, and I tell her that she gets to play and have fun with all her friends while Mommy runs boring errands… She’s not convinced. She then notices other familiar faces and the teacher turns on some great music. Score two for new teacher! She gives me a hug and finds her friend Hannah again. I hesitate at the door, she gives me a huge smile and says “BYE MOMMY!” I know she will do great!
Two VERY different kids!!!

Keira was “reading” her “Pig Pancake” book to Quinn! He was watching and listening while she pointed to each picture and told the story! She said “Look, Bubba! Pig, Pancake, They are eating, YUM YUM! Then they take a bath.” SO CUTE!! Quinn was very attentive! Keira enjoyed being a little teacher to him just like Linda our favorite librarian!!

The Fair!
For ONE day every year, the fair makes me wish we lived on a farm...
K was able to ride her first REAL horse! She loved it until the end when the horse sneezed! Both kids enjoyed the petting zoo, cows, pig show, big slide, corn dogs and funnel cakes (Mommy and Daddy loved these!), carousel, and the HUGE "JUMP JUMP." Daddy had a twinkle in his eye remembering and telling Keira all about his former 4-H days at the fair!
